Soy-based Handi-Foam® eco foam and Handi-Seal® eco foam provide greener approach to air sealing

NORTON, Ohio – January 20, 2009 – Fomo Products, Inc. is continuing its environmental sustainability initiatives through the development of a new line of eco-friendly polyurethane foam construction sealants made out of more than 10 percent renewable soy resources. Both products contribute to LEED credits and ENERGYSTAR® certification.

The eco foam green line is comprised of Handi-Foam® eco foam, a standard one-component spray foam, and Handi-Seal® eco foam, a one-component spray foam designed specifically for window and door applications. Each pound of the soy-based polyol used in both products replaces one pound of petroleum based polyols and results in a 5.6 pound CO2 benefit to the atmosphere.

“The movement to go green in the construction industry is no longer a movement – it’s a permanent trend that Fomo has embraced and is proactively executing in the marketplace,” said Sara Jonas, marketing manager at Fomo. “Our research and development team has been working diligently for quite some time to develop the technology needed to make polyurethane foam truly eco-friendly.”

Handi-Foam eco foam and Handi-Seal eco foam were created as part of Fomo’s ‘Stop Air Infiltration’ initiative offering significant energy savings through the creation of air barriers. By blocking air infiltration, the new eco-line prevents allergens and pollutants from entering the home or building, helping to improve indoor air quality and comfort.

Handi-Foam eco foam is used to seal gaps and penetrations around wires, plumbing and electrical boxes, lessening the costly energy consumption associated with HVAC equipment. Its high yield properties reduce the average amount of material required, with one can of foam replacing approximately 30 standard tubes of caulk.

Handi-Seal® eco foam is used to seal rough openings around windows and doors, preventing air from penetrating through gaps and holes. Designed with low pressure properties, Handi-Seal eco foam meets American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) doc 812-04 specifications for low pressure, preventing bowing or distortion of windows or doors.

Handi-Seal eco foam’s Dry Seal Technology™ is the only patented window and door technology designed to prevent moisture and mold problems by repelling water, unlike open cell formulas that trap and absorb water. This technology decreases the risk of mold development within the structure.

The easy application process for both Handi-Foam® eco foam and Handi-Seal eco foam helps to reduce labor time and cost. Fomo’s easy to use dispensing tools and straw foams prevent difficult ratcheting of caulk guns with a much more desirable yield.
